Personal Property (I) Basic is a course intended to provide a general overview of the taxation of tangible personal property in the Commonwealth of Virginia. The course provides information related to the history, definition and scope of personal property taxation, the role of the Commissioner of Revenue with respect to personal property taxation and basic instruction regarding discovery, classification, assessment and the appeals process for Personal Property Taxation.

The course format is a two (2) day offering with an online exam the following day. Here is the class schedule:

  • Day 1: Registration begins at 8:30 am. Instruction begins at 9:00 am, unless the instructor requests otherwise.
  • Day 2: Instruction begins at 9:00 am, unless the instructor requests otherwise. Class ends after the review session.
  • Day 3: Exam will be available on the UVACollab site.
