Established in 1759, Fauquier County is located approximately 40 miles southwest of Washington D.C. and is a part of the Washington Standard Metropolitan Statistical Area. The County is bounded to the west by Culpeper and Rappahannock counties, to the south by Stafford County, to the north by Loudoun, Warren, and Clarke counties, and to the east by Prince William County. Fauquier County can be accessed by four major highways including Routes 28, 29, 55, 211 as well as Interstate 66.
Fauquier County is approximately made up of 660 square miles, or 422,000 acres. The incorporated towns of Warrenton, Remington and The Plains are located within Fauquier County's borders.
